Learning Taxidermy
If you want to learn
about the art of taxidermy, there are many choices available to fit any
budget. In the not-too-distant past, taxidermy procedures were closely
held secrets which could only be learned through long apprenticeships in
studios or museums. Today, there is a wide variety of training available
for aspiring taxidermists. The art of taxidermy incorporates many crafts,
such as carpentry, woodworking, tanning, molding and casting; but it also
requires artistic talent, including the art of sculpture, painting and
drawing. The following categories contain links to dozens of sources for
taxidermy information and training.
Taxidermy
Schools
Taxidermy schools
offer full-time structured academic training with both classroom and lab
work. Schools present the best option for learning all aspects of taxidermy
in a hands-on environment. Depending upon the curriculum, complete taxidermy
courses may run from six weeks to several semesters. Click

Taxidermy
Workshops
Taxidermy workshops
are shorter in length (usually a few days), intense training sessions with
world-class taxidermists and fish carvers. The training is excellent, with
one-on-one supervision and attention. Some workshops will accept beginners,
but most are primarily for experienced taxidermists and wildlife artists
wishing to learn more about a particular aspect of their art. Click

Taxidermy
Conventions
If you want an
excellent way to learn more than you though possible in a few short days,
make a date to attend a taxidermy convention in your area. You'll see examples
of innovative, artistic taxidermy work in the competition, learn about
new techniques in the seminars, and enjoy the fellowship of meeting new
friends with similar interests. Attending a convention is the best
way to see what the world of taxidermy is all about. Click
